Bristol Institute of Modern Music Launches the Peter Grant Memorial Scholarship
The Peter Grant Memorial Scholarship has been created by the Bristol Institute of Modern Music in collaboration with the Peter Grant Estate. It will be linked to their Music Industry Management BAHons qualification being run at BIMM Bristol from September 2012.
Peter Grant, best known as the manager of Led Zepplin, also worked closely with Bo Diddley, The Everly Brothers, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincent, and the Animals, to name a few. In 1996 The Music Managers Forum (MMF) Award for outstanding achievement in management was renamed the Peter Grant Award in his honour.
The course, as with all BIMM programmes, is vocational and designed to act as a springboard into employment.
Mark Clayden, BIMM Bristol College Manager, explains, "We have designed the Music Industry Management BAHons degree to support up and coming young professionals eager to make their mark in the music industry. Training students in all areas of this ever changing industry including: Live Event Management, Retail, Promotion, Record Labels, A&R, Working With Musicians, Finances and Music Law."
Peter Grant's daughter, Helen Grant, added, "My father would have been both touched and honoured that this scholarship has been created in his name. He was a great inspiration to many people in the business, not only on the management front, but in the way he looked after his artists in his own, infamous way! A charismatic personality coupled with great humor, means he is never far away. This is a long overdue accolade. Never forgotten."
The Peter Grant Memorial Scholarship will cover approx £16,000 of course fees across the three year undergraduate programme.
INDUSTRY QUOTES ON BIMM'S MUSIC INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT COURSE:
Craig Jennings (Manager: You Me At Six, Twin Atlantic, Bullet For My Valentine, Kids In Glass Houses) "BIMM have designed this course to make sure that you will explore all of the possible career opportunities that are out there today. Once you know which route is for you, you will get hands on work experience on the front line. The BIMM Music Industry Management course gives students the chance to become fully skilled, trained and able to deal with anything that they may come across once they get out there into the industry."
Miles Leonard (President of Parlophone and Virgin Records) "The BIMM Music Industry Management Course provides an in-depth insight and valuable hands on experience into all facets of our fast moving industry from A & R and live event management through to finance and emerging business models. It's a really solid grounding for anyone looking to work in the music business. If I was starting out, it's where I would be. "

Love & Death Featuring Former Korn Guitarist Release EP
Love And Death, the new band led by former Korn guitarist Brian Head Welch, have just released their new EP ‘Chemicals’. The EP can be streamed in its entirety at AOL Music. ‘Chemicals’ features the US #1 radio hit ‘Paralyzed’.
Welch marks a new beginning with the announcement that his band will now go by the name Love & Death. “I put this band together in 2009” states Welch. “Since then, we've experienced some very intense highs and lows. Michael Valentine, Dan Johnson, J.R. Bareis and myself have toured around the world playing a lot of killer shows, but we've also had some heart shattering difficulties along the way as well. To us, the name ‘Love and Death’ symbolizes everything we've been through as a band over the last few years. We love this band so much and we'll go through hell to connect with our fans. We've proven that to ourselves over and over again.”
Ginger Wildheart remains one of the of the UK’s most prolific singer/songwriter/guitarists. Best known through his work with The Wildhearts, Ginger Wildheart has spent the last twenty years writing and recording some of Britains best rock music and building a fanatical following.
In mid 2011 Ginger Wildheart approached various labels with a typically ambitious triple album project. Unable to gain any interest from labels or distributers to fund the album, Ginger turned to Direct to Fan platform PledgeMusic, which allowed him to work directly with fans to create the album, bypassing the traditional methods of recording and releasing music. The campaign can be seen here.
The target that was set was beaten in 6 hours, and doubled in 24 hours. 6 months later and Ginger has completed 30 songs, and the total stands at 580%! This has been the biggest direct to fan/fan funded album release through any of the DTF platforms (Kickstarter, PledgeMusic, Indiegogo etc..) in the WORLD. EVER.
The PledgeMusic triple album – aptly titled ’555%’ - was played to Pledgers in three weekly instalments during March 2012. The Twitter listening parties took place at 5:55pm every Friday and each week the tag #Ginger555 became the highest trending topic on Twitter in the UK. The Pledgers then voted on their favourite tracks and from those votes the 12 tracks that make up ‘100%’ (the commercial album due for general release on June 4th) were chosen.
The tracklisting for 100% is as follows:
1. Forget About It
2. Internal Radio
3. Lover It’ll all Work Out
4. You’re The One, You’re The One, Yeah, I Know You’re The One, You’re The One (Yeah, I Know You’re The One)
5. It Appears That The Party Is Over
6. Taste Aversion
7. Another Spinning Fucking Rainbow
8. Just Another Song About Someone
9. Westward Ho! (A New Reputation)
10. Beautifully, Blissfully Unsettled

Brighton based 4 piece band O.W.L.S have announced details of their debut EP 'The Rite Of Spring', released worldwide digitally through In At The Eye Records today. It will be available on iTunes, Amazon, 7 Digital, Spotify and all other good digital retailers.
The Seven track mini-monster was recorded by O.W.L.S long-time friend Michael ‘Padge’ Padget whom you may know as Bullet For My Valentine’s guitarist. The EP was mastered by one of O.W.L.S' other friends Nick Brine who has worked with the likes of Oasis, The Darkness, Ash, and Bruce Springsteen.
Band members Toby Macfairlaine, Richie Edwards, Oliver Wickham & Steven Gilchrist all went to the same school in the olden days. Richie and Toby were in the band, The Stone Gods with The Darkness’ Dan Hawkins.
O.W.L.S are very much influenced by Toby's obsession with the noise that came out of the pacific Northwest of America in the late 80's and early 90's, think Nirvana, Mudhoney, The Melvins, Queens Of The Stone Age and Soundgarden.
Describing their music as "feedback, bang & crash, shouting in tune, no precision solos or fireworks," O.W.L.S are resurrecting the spirit of grunge with smiles on their faces, and what's more they aim to make you smile too!
Catch the band live at Birmingham’s O2 Academy on May 5th 2012.
EP Tracklisting:
01. Only Joking
02. Hurt Janine
03. Leave A Light Over My Grave
04. Vitamins
